Ben and his family were part of a huge group of VW Bus entusiasts that meet here once a year. They had just started arriving toay and expected another 100 tomorrow. Some of the rigs were very cute.

We took the Bambi (Airstream) to have the wheel bearings packed (whatever that means - I think they force grease into the end of the axle or something like that) and to have the "knee-knocker bathroom door taken off. While we waited we visited the local Farmer's Market and pick up so veggies and veggie chips (they make chips out of everything - carrots, green beans and peas, okra, squash, beets, you name it). We checked out all the latest gadgets for camping (decided we could live without them) and then headed to Raleigh.

At exactly 12:29pm, with an average speed of 50 mph, and 40hours and 38 minutes of driving time into our trip, we hit the 2,000 mile mark. So far, so good. Davis put on a brave face as I drove some today.

You know how something bad can turn out to be something really good? When we got to Raleigh's Jordan Lake State's Crosswinds State Park, where we ALWAYS stay we found they had cut the staff (economy) and closed off some of the area; only one, non-electric, no water site left (bummer, right?). Well, as we anitsipated a night in the Walmart parking lot, the Ranger mentioned that there was another area for camping, but it was for groups basically, not far away, on the same lake. We heading in the direction she had indicated, got to the Ranger Startion - no one there (getting a little discouraged here) so we drove on a bit, saw some RVs,
pulled in with the Ranger behind us, stopped, he asked us if we were with the Air Stream group - we ignorantly said "why, yes!" About that time an angel appeared and said, "hey, they're with us" and like that we had stummbled into a group of Air Streamers from a club in middle NC! They took us under their wing, directed us to one of the only two spots left, invited us to dinner and breakfast and we were set for the next two nights! (again as Libby would say - oh, my!) This club just took us in, knowing not only were we not members of that particular group, but that we would never be members as we were now Oregonians! Miracles happen, Angels do exist and life IS good.
| What a wonderful sight! And what a welcoming, wonderful group of folks these Airstreamers are! Thanks for saving us. |
For all who follow (and those who aren't), I wish you abundant miracles, angels and God Speed.
Shalom, Heather . . .

Wonderful!
