Day 36 - "Route 66 - Here We Come!" - (We are in Granite City, IL for at least 2 days)

Brian suggested that I post (in the title) where we are each day.  Sounds like payback for when we used to make him tell us where HE was each day!!!!  Good idea; I'll go back and do that for all the other 35 days as well.  I'll begin this day's entry for real this evening - stay tuned . . . .

Before you begin reading, please go to the following:
(you may have to cut and paste).  If possible, let it play while you read.

Most of today was spent on Route 66!  If you're old enough to remember the TV show then . . . bless your heart!

As you know from yesterday, Davis spent his morning getting the oil changed in the truck.  It turned out to be a first class dealership so it was a pleasant  experience.  I spent the morning “Spring cleaning” the Bambi.  I vacuumed and scrubbed floors, shook and washed the mats, cleaned all the . . . but that’s not why you’re reading this blog!!  WHO CARES ABOUT WHAT HOUSEWORK SOMEONE ELSE DID!!

Today was an overcast 55 degree day of driving on straight, straight roads and looking at flat, flat land. What a beautiful, diverse country we live in (I think I’ve said that before and will probably say a few more times).

We really did  chase Route 66 through Illinois for about 181 miles (Davis corrected me - it was from Springfield on that we were on Rt66.)  tradition and ate at a Taco Bell (wonderful Chalupas and tacos).  We also shopped around for some things for the Bambi that we had either broken or lost or never had.

Wait a minute - he's reading a book, not
planning our trip, hey Davis, don't make a
liar out of me!
Late this afternoon and evening we (mostly Davis) did some loose planning for the rest of the trip.  We both agree that there’s so much to see that maybe a month is not enough time!   We may plan on another extra 2 weeks or so before heading to Amity.  We are on the very edge of Illinois and will spend at least tomorrow at the Lewis and Clarke museum in Missouri.  Hope to get some interesting pictures for you there.
I wonder if they have any of our mail?
  Probably not.
Please e-mail if you are following and enjoying the trip with us but can’t make  comments; we miss you all so much and it would be the highlight of our day to read your e-mails - just a word or two would bring a smile to our faces (we’re cheap dates).
I’ve got to go heat up our dinner and get ready for the evening.
Shalom,  Heather . . .
