Day 35 - It Was a Don Quixote Day (sing along with the words) -
To dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go; To right the unrightable wrong. To love, pure and chaste, from afar, To try, when your arms are too weary, To reach the unreachable star! This is my Quest to follow that star, No matter how hopeless, no matter how far, To fight for the right Without question or pause, To be willing to march into hell For a heavenly cause! And I know, if I'll only be true To this glorious Quest, That my heart will lie peaceful and calm When I'm laid to my rest. And the world will be better for this, That one man, scorned and covered with scars, Still strove, with his last ounce of courage, To reach the unreachable stars! |
Sorry, I’m just taken with great poetry put to music; and I’m a dreamer as well . . . . I know “enough already!”
I can’t believe I missed telling you all yesterday that we had reached the 5,000 mile mark at 9:55AM! Doesn’t feel like we’ve traveled that many miles - time and miles fly when you’re having fun.
This morning was quite “crisp”. We both hurried back from the shower; it wasn’t that cold but the wind was blowing so it felt ... well ... crisp. At least there was none of the promised rain. We left Wisconsin and headed south into Illinois for the night.
| Amelia Peabody is the bomb! |
| They're coming along. |
We traveled about 215 miles today; camping tonight in Carlock, IL. I read a couple of chapters of our book out-loud and finished a few more stitches on my needlepoint of Robins (love those birds).
My, but this is “flat lands”. It has a beauty all its own with a zillion windmills - and those are some big monsters. I took about a dozen pictures of them but will publish only one or two.
| They're everywhere, they're everywhere!! |

| They're huge! |
Someone in Illinois has a great sense of humor. These are some of the signs I found in the welcome center. I forgot the mirror in the bathroom would show me taking the pictures - ha, ha.
| Oops! I just realized you can see me and . . . . |
| ...you're in the ladies room with me!!!!!! |
So we're not the only state struggling with budget cuts . . . and some people want to cut taxes so we have even MORE budget cuts! |
Wish every state did that - too many drunk drivers, not enough convictions. (Just my opinion) |
| Beautiful bridge. |
Davis is going to add his own touches to tonight so anything good is his writing! (Can you tell I kinda like the guy &; ) - notice my curly hair ?!) . . .
| Miles and miles of miles and miles. |
| Oh yes, they added these curves - they're all the same. |
The drive was straight and flat... once we got out of the rolling hills of Wisconsin the terrain flattened out
and the only curves in the road were the ones purposely put there so drivers wouldn’t fall asleep.
I suspect we will run in and out of the flat lands a lot in the next few days.
| I've always thought we were no where near Normal! |
We’re stopping near Normal, Ill., tonight as we have an appointment in the morning to have the oil changed in the truck in Bloomington, Ill. (This is the first time we’ve been near Normal !!! Ha !!! Not everyone can say that! )
That oil change will take us another 8000 miles, well past Amity. Diesel fuel has gone down... tonight we bought fuel at $3.99 a gallon, cheapest since Pennsylvania. But the savings was offset by the stiff headwind we encountered on the way down... we only got about 13.5 mpg today.
Here we are at last - amongst folks our own size! There are two "Scamps" and a "Casita". Wonderful campers (we had a 13' Casita before the Airstream) |
Sleep well all, Shalom, Heather and Davis . . .

5,000 MILES!!! wow!!
