Day 50 - May 16, 2011 "You Rock" (Gallup, NM)

Great night sleep - cool morning - delightful!  We traveled 150 miles west today and stopped in Gallup, NM for the night.
Interesting bridge.
This is one of those awesome crisscross bridge
complexes that always amaze me.

We call this one "train engine rock."
The landscape in this high desert is amazing; and dynamic. If we were to come by here in another 10 years the landscape would have rearranged itself again.  Amazing, different and so beautiful; again (I know you're tired of my saying this, but . . . ) I only wish the pictures could do justice to the beauty.
Interesting formation.

It flows to the Mississippi, not the Atlantic!
Don't you love that hat on him?
We went over the western continental divide before lunch today.  Davis is pointing to the mistake on the sign.  The water does NOT flow to the Atlantic; it flows to the Mississippi!  (I love being married to an intelligent man!).

We also saw a sad sign - one of the many places where Route 66 dead ends.  I plan to find and bid on the DVD of the old TV shows; they had some here but too dear for me.
This is just one of many : (

An original Route 66 bridge.

This is a really nice camp ground.
This is a delightful campground with a great enclosed dog run for Precious.

They have live music each night, however,
no dogs allowed so we couldn't stay

Tonight Davis is starting to read out loud the third book in our Amelia Peabody series; we are cooking in
again and making use of our new, 3-cup rice cooker.

Nice to hear from you Gary, Drew and Dennis! (from Davis)

Night to all, Shalom,  Heather . . .
