Day 72 - 6/7/11 - “The Atlantic Is Tame, The Pacific Is Wild!” (We are in Devil’s Lake State Park in Lincoln City, OR)

We are here at last!!  Hurray!

eyes water.

Today was much like yesterday, gorgeous coastal views interspaced with villages and towns along the coast.  

Newport was one of those towns, but it was a lot bigger than Newport, North Carolina!  

Lots of little Village-size towns.

We had hoped to stop there for lunch but took too long admiring the sights and instead stopped in a great little Fish & Chips shack called Luna Sea Fish House in Yachats, Oregon. 

One of the most interesting places along the way was Depoe Bay, where the sign said it was the smallest port in the world.

Well, I had to see that so I stopped and had a look-see, and the port itself was small but the channel to get into the port was TINY!

I’m talking about a channel about 40 feet wide, with huge waves rolling in and ROCKS on either side.  I would never get in a boat and go through that channel!  Again, the pictures don’t do it justice, but take a look...

We'll be back here many more times!

The campground tonight is Devils Lake State Park in the heart of Lincoln City, beautiful, about 1/4 mile from the ocean with a huge fresh water lagoon behind it.  And, we are only 1 hour and 16 minutes from HOME!

Heather here with special thoughts and random pictures: I’m sending special thoughts to my teacher (and principal) friends.  This is one time of year I will never miss.  With EOGs and EOCs and having your charges moving on and . . . ‘nuff said.  I am glad to have had you all in my life and the children you touch are lucky to have had you in their lives.  


And Francis, Tereas and Judy - have a great summer you guys (miss you)!  

Special thanks to all those who were ever in my “lunch-bunch(es)” over the years.  There’s just something special about people who spend lunch with you each day - even though the group changes as time goes on.  Thanks for the fellowship.

They'll be done in a day or so.

To everyone I have and have not written a special note:  This is a very exciting and happy time for Davis and I; but know also that it is a very sad time as well.  All that we have known for the last 38 years is behind us.  


We will be making many new connections, but those we made in Carteret County will always be special to us.  Our son (the apple of our eyes) was born and raised with some of your help in CC.  Both of us have connections that we had a very, very hard time leaving.  But the call of family is so strong; we love the vision we have of our future in the Northwest.  We also invite you to stay with us in our new and beautiful home in Oregon.  Come one, come all!  (Just give me time to change the sheets!)
