Day 59 - 5/25/11 - “Well I’ll be Dam and There’s a Ghost Town Here That Refused To Die!”

Yoowie!
We’re still based out of Needles, California, and today we headed north.  We thought yesterday was hot... well today when we arrived back to the river it was 100 degrees!  (humidity at 25%).

The Ghost Town that refused to die!
Davis takes a "fancy" to Fast Fanny's place!
We started out the day going to Oatman, AZ, an old gold mining ghost town stuck way back in the driest hills we have ever seen.

He is also quite taken with Judy!

Cute name, cute place.

How anyone made it back there 100 years ago to discover gold is beyond me.  See the pictures of the burros and town.
Babies don't have back teeth yet.

These are the local VIPs.

We were there about an
hour and then drove

Me, well, I took as shine to a rich prospector!

another 2 hours north to see the Hoover dam just outside of Las Vegas.

This is the lake formed by the dam.
Broad, straight highway all the way and when we finally got there we were told no pets were allowed at the bridge,

so we settled for a few pictures from afar, lunch, then the drive back to Needles.

First thing we did was to hop into the pool, then down by the riverside for happy hour by the Colorado for the last time.
We are in CA looking across the Colorado River
into AZ . . . and it's cool!  That's what I'm
talkin' about!

And the grass scratches your back just right!

Tomorrow we head west, beyond the desert and all this heat!  (Heather says, “Oh, my, yes!”)
Shalom,  Davis . . .

  2. Oh by the way, enjoy the hot weather bc it is only 50F up here! Can you believe it? I actually kind of like the rain (call me crazy), but I thought I better forewarn you southern folk. :))

  3. Thanks for the warning! We are looking forward to it. We've had enough of the hot, humid weather to last us for a long time!
